Development of the Urinary System: T/F

.An important source of primordial tissue for development of the urogenital system is the nephrogenic cord, derived from lateral mesoderm.

.The metanephroi, the intermediate set of kidneys, develop in the cervical region and function for a short time in fetal life.

.Ascent of the kidneys is attributed primarily to the upward movement of the organs.

.A horseshoe kidney typically cannot ascend to the adult position because it gets caught up on the superior mesenteric artery at L3.

.The metanephric blastema gives rise to the collecting duct system, whereas the ureteric bud gives rise to structures that compose a nephron.

.The cloaca is partitioned by the urorectal septum into the ventrally located rectum, and dorsally located UG sinus.

.The trigone of the bladder represents an area where the primitive ureters were incorporated into the anterior inferior bladder wall.

.The epithelium of the lower urinary tract is primarily derived from ectoderm.

.The urachus underlies the medial umbilical folds.

.A urachal sinus is a malformation in which urine could travel from the bladder and exit the body by way of the umbilicus.
